Chicago Ridge, Illinois, offers small-town community living located about 20 miles from Chicago's downtown area. I never realized this, but Chicago Ridge earned its name by the dirt ridges created by the Wabash Railroad delivering trainloads of dirt during the Columbian Exposition of 1893. It was incorporated on Oct. 17, 1914 and has an area of about 2.30 sq. miles.
There is a good mix of residential and commercial/development. Westfield Mall and the Commons shopping mall sit side by side and offer hundreds of stores, dining and movie theaters. Chicago Ridge boasts a very popular summer outdoor festival called Ridgefest. They have featured The Bacon Brothers and I personally saw Keanu Reeves perform with his band, Becky. Another bonus Chicago Ridge offers is a Metra train stop at 103rd & Ridgeland.
U.S. 2000 Census Bureau figures show a total population of 14,127 and Chicago Ridge Illinoisreal estate statistics comprise of 5,897 total housing units.
