Lemont IL
I was first introduced to Lemont, Illinois for a few of its business establishments in the quaint downtown area. Lemont, IL had a popular restaurant that has gone through a few owners over the years but its current owners have once again brought a good following to Stonecutters Seafood and Chop House at 103 Stephen St. I've dined at H & H Family Restaurant at 116-118 Stephen St., a Mexican themed dining experience that has been around for many years. Nick's Tavern at 221 Main St. is famous for their huge hamburgers.
I was also introduced to Lemont's antique shops and have been part of several antique auctions held in town. As an antique lover this is what I think of first when Lemont is mentioned, the lovely downtown area with the antique shops. Photo courtesy of bmaxdixon
Lemont History
Lemont is a diverse town with a rich history. It was settled in 1836 and the attraction was a combination of the waterways and the stone quarries that existed at the time. The village resides by the Sanitary & Ship Canal, The Des Plaines River and the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Lemont was incorporated in 1873 and 2000 Census reports shows a total population of 13,098 which is expected to double in 2020. Lemont real estate figures show total housing units of 4,553.
