I was first introduced to Lemont, Illinois for a few of its business establishments in the quaint downtown area. One was the Christmas Bar, a lounge that was decorated for Christmas all year long with many moving displays like a train perched high near the ceiling & all kinds of glowing & turning large ornaments hanging above from the ceiling. It lasted for many years but was finally taken over by a different establishment.

Lemont, IL had a popular restaurant that has gone through a few owners over the years but its current owners have once again brought a good following to Stonecutters Seafood and Chop House at 103 Stephen St. I've dined at H & H Family Restaurant at 116-118 Stephen St., a Mexican themed dining experience that has been around for many years. Nick's Tavern at 221 Main St. is famous for their huge hamburgers.

I was also introduced to Lemont's antique shops and have been part of several antique auctions held in town. As an antique lover this is what I think of first when Lemont is mentioned, the lovely downtown area with the antique shops.

Lemont History

Lemont is a diverse town with a rich history. It was settled in 1836 and the attraction was a combination of the waterways and the stone quarries that existed at the time. The village resides by the Sanitary & Ship Canal, The Desplains River and the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Lemont was incorporated in 1873 and 2000 Census reports shows a total population of 13,098 which is expected to double in 2020. Lemont real estate figures show total housing units of 4,553.

Lemont offers older and historical homes near the downtown area and newer subdivisions located in the village with plans being made on the outskirts in the unincorporated areas. Land is scarce in Lemont as this secret gem has certainly been discovered. Another reason for Lemont's increasing popularity is that there is a train station downtown so it provides access to downtown Chicago.
