Orland Hills considers itself a gem of the southwest suburbs. It is a smaller village nestled between two larger (and more expensive, real estate wise),a villages of Tinley Park and Orland Park. Orland Hills is a newer community, incorporated in 1961. It has a mix of the original ranch style homes without basements to newer two stories, 3-step ranches and bi-levels. It is a progressive area with constant plans for the future.
Its first big development was Orland Towne Center which opened in 1991 and offers a Wal-Mart, Circuit City and other stores and is located at 94th Ave. and 159th St. Many people think that Georgio's Hotel and Conference Center at88th Ave. & 159th St. is Orland Park, but it is actually another Orland Hills development and has provided an infusion of revenue for the village.
2000 Census figures show a total population of 6,779 and Orland Hills real estate comprises 2,182 total housing units.
