Worth's popular motto which is printed on its water tower, which is visible to travelers on I-294, is "The Friendly Village." Worth, Illinois was incorporated in 1914 and was named after General William J. Worth who became famous in the War of 1812 and the U.S. War with Mexico.

Worth is about 18 miles from downtown Chicago and has a Metra train station and Pace bus service. It is 8 miles from Midway Airport and 28 from O'Hare. 2000 Census figures show Worth as having a total population of 11,047 and Worth real estate comprises of 4,513 total housing units. There is a great mix of older and newer style homes. Much of Worth offers tree lined and wooded streets and lots with a rural feel.

Worth, IL also boasts a newer municipal golf course and a boat launch along the Cal-Sag. Worth also has 11 parks and a historic museum.
