My Recent Press

Some of my fellow agents, friends and clients have seen my recent press.  It started a few weeks ago with a Wall Street Journal article about how I lost the domain name for my Oak Lawn Real Estate website.  Here’s the link to the original piece that was picked up nationwide:  Judy Orr in The Wall Street Journal.

Please be assured that I did not forget to pay my $9.00 fee.  I relied on my web host to let me know what the problem was when my site first went off-line since I purchased the domain name through them.  They finally figured it out the 2nd time the site went down but by that time it was too late.

The story was captured by two local papers, The Daily Southtown and The Chicago Sun Times.  The Daily Southtown article wasn’t as bad as the Sun Times article which made it sound like I simply forgot to renew my domain name.  I wrote back to both papers asking for a rebuttal and the Daily Southtown gave me a second, longer article with my photo!  You can read it here:  Daily Southtown article on Judy Orr.  The online version doesn’t have my photo.

As soon as the original articles came out locally I was also contacted by WGN radio that did an afternoon show on it featuring the person who purchased my domain name.  I was able to ask him a couple of questions.

And it all has a happy ending.  The owner of the company that created this site (www.cook-county-real-estate.net/), Real Estate Webmasters, is Morgan Carey.  The evening that all of the press came out I received an e-mail from Morgan with a subject line:  "A gift from a friend."  He had purchased my domain name back for me (which cost $1,288) and gave me a brand new site and free hosting.  I couldn’t believe it!

So my site is back up and running and I’m adding content to it every day I can.  Morgan Carey also runs a great real estate forum that is for agents and real estate buyers and sellers.  Please check it out:  Real Estate Webmasters Forum
